Social fitness activities and taking a group exercise class like FloatFit might be the perfect thing to improve your quality of life!

Engaging in social fitness activities could be a solution to improving the well-being of everyone.

A recent study at the University of New England shows participants of regular workout classes, rather than exercising alone, report:

  • less stress
  • a higher quality of life

The study divided medical students into three groups. Each group took on different exercise plans.

  • Group 1 was instructed to take at least one workout class per week (optional additional exercise if wanted).
  • Group 2 was instructed to work out alone or with one or two partners at least twice a week
  • Group 3 was instructed not to work out at all.

After four weeks, all the medical students answered questions about their quality of life and stress levels. The 30-minute exercise classes targeted and strengthened core muscles to improve functional fitness.  The exercises used body weight, resistance bands or free weights to challenge coordination, balance, and strength. Each exercise had modifications to accommodate varying fitness levels and abilities.

All participants of the two groups that exercised experienced a quality of life boost.

  • The group exercisers reported significantly lower stress levels and increased physical, mental, and emotional quality of life
  • The non-class exercisers only showed an increase in quality of life
  • The non-exercise group did not show a significant change in any of the measurements

Participation in group fitness classes decreases stress and increases physical, mental and emotional quality of life compared with exercising alone or not participating in regular exercise.
